San Beda ousts Saint Benilde in NCAA semis race

Labels: ,

MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion San Beda finally settled its score against the College of Saint Benilde Blazers pulling off a 91-74 win in Wednesday’s second game in the National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament at the Astrodome in Pasay City.

The win was the Red Lions’ closing statement in their off-court loss against the Blazers. San Beda downed Saint Benilde, 86-70, on July 18 but Saint Benilde put the game under protest after Lions center Sam Ekwe suited up using an old uniform.

The NCAA Management Committee sided with the Blazers and nullified the Lions’ win over the Blazers.

On Wednesday, Ogie Menor drained six three-pointers finishing with a season-high 35 points to lead the Lions to their ninth win in 12 games that propelled them back into the top spot.

The win improved the Lions’ record to a league-best 9-3 mark to gain solo leadership as the league enters the homestretch.

The loss ended the Blazers’ slim chances of advancing into the semifinals since San Sebastian also failing to cooperate in their cause as the Stags scored a 52-47 win over the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers. – GMANews.TV
