Luna Mystica casting is almost complete
Possibly the last primetime soap of GMA 7 to premiere this year replacing Codename: Asero, the Kapuso network is finalizing the cast for the second soap of Heart Evangelista in the Kapuso network, Luna Mystica. It is set to start production middle of this month.
A story conference is set next week with RJ Nuevas handling the head writing job and Mike Tuviera doing the directing.
Heart plays the title role and will play twins — Luna the ugly but good-hearted rich girl and Celestina, her avenging shadow. GMA is still working on Heart's "ugly" look so as not to be compared to her last ABS-CBN soap Hiram Na Mukha, where she also played a deformed face lead.
Playing her partners will be Mark Anthony Fernandez, Luis Alandy, and Mark Herras in a very special role.
Mark's participation in Luna Mystica is a short one as he is set to reunite with original partner Jennylyn Mercado in an upcoming Sine Novela.
Playing two friendly fairies are Pauleen Luna and Michelle Madrigal, who are both very vocal in admitting that they are not on speaking terms. It would be an interesting set for the two exes of JC de Vera on how they would act playing friends on cam.
Two ex Kapuso stars also return to GMA 7 after a short stint over at ABS-CBN: Sheryl Cruz playing Heart's mother and Eddie Gutierrez.
Also in the cast are Iwa Motto as Mark's partner, Ariel Rivera, and the pair of Rita Avila and Gardo Versoza last seen together in the Sine Novela Magdusa Ka.
Other roles are still being cast before the camera starts rolling for Luna Mystica. - Philippine Entertainment Portal

Laarni has no time for love, but only for now

Laarni Lozada, Pinoy Dream Academy (PDA) Season 2 Grand Star Dreamer, said that she has no time for love.
Lozada, in an interview, said that she is focused on her career as a singer especially with her first big project, an upcoming CD under Star Records.
“Naku huwag muna. Loveless ako ngayon so huwag muna (love). Career muna,” explained Lozada.
Tagged as the “Princess of Sultan Kudarat”, Lozada admitted that though she is not in a relationship right now, she is happy and inspired because of her showbiz crush, Jed Madela.
“Mayroon po (akong crush) siyempre. Ina-idolize ko siya kasi ang galing niyang kumanta,” she said.
The singer even added that she really likes the voice quality of Madela and the fact that the latter is really a nice person.
Na-touch ako because of that at na-boost ang confidence ko at na-inspire ako as a singer,” she said.
Big dreams
After her dream of becoming the number one scholar of PDA Season 2, Lozada shared some of her greatest dreams which include a big concert.
“Gusto kong magkaroon ng nationwide, worldwide concert,” Lozada gushed.
The singers said that there are still many things that she wants to do – things that would actually challenge herself to give all her best to meet the expectations of those who are supporting her not only in the Philippines but also those abroad.
Again, Lozada extended her appreciations to all her fans and supporters for their unending love and support.
Lozada with other top six scholars and expelled scholars are now busy promoting their CD “Scholars Sing Cayabyab.”

Indie films rule at Urian Awards; Rustom Padilla shows up in a gown

The Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino has gone full circle. After annual awards held in various venues since the early part of the eighties, the prestigious film critics body on Wednesday evening went back to it original venue, the Little Theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines , where it began its annual awards in 1976.
The first few years of the awarding were simple, straight, direct, uninterrupted. Despite these, they were mostly anticipated and watched. As what Boots Anson Roa, one of the emcees, with Manunuri Butch Francisco, said on Wednesday night: “It was déjà vu. I was also the emcee on its first awards night right here at the Little Theater.”
With the advent of many live telecasts, the Gawad Urian inevitably aired over commercial TV. Proceedings would last until the wee hours of the morning because of heavy TV ads. Too many commercial interruptions eventually irked the public.
In this year, ako ang sumulat ng script,” volunteered MPP member, playwright, teacher, book author, screenwriter, historian, scholar and researcher Nicanor G. Tiongson.
RUSTOM PADILLA was a scene-stealer: the openly gay actor (former husband of actress Carmina Villaruel) presented one of the awards in drag; the look on co-presenter Mark Gil's face is priceless
The 2008 Urian Award paid tribute to the proliferation of indie or independent filmmaking through digital productions.
Miguel Rapatan, a Manunuri member from the De La Salle University.
Among this year’s outstanding nominees for best picture are “Confessional” by directors Jerrold Tarog and Ruel Antipuesto, produced by Creative Programs, Inc. through Cinema One Originals and Oddfield Productions; “Death in the Land of Encantos” directed by Lav Diaz, produced by Cine Olivia Pilipinas; “Endo” by filmmaker Jade Castro from ufo Pictures; “Tirador” by internationally acclaimed film artist Brillante Mendoza, produced by Centerstage Productions; “Tribu,” directed by Jim Libiran for 8 Glasses Productions and the only 35mm nominee, “Foster Child,” directed by Dante Mendoza for Seiko Films.
Cherry Pie Picache, who won the Best Actress award for her performance as foster mother, is an advocate of indie filmmaking. “I could sacrifice my talent fee just to do a very good indie digital film,” Picache assured.
Underrated and low profile actor Jason Abalos and “prince” of indie films Sid Lucero brought home the Best Actor plum in “Endo” and “Selda” of Star View Productions, respectively.
Mendoza, a forerunner of award-winning digital works in the local film industry, unfortunately, is in the 13th Pusan International Film Festival in Korea where he is attending the fete and teaching directing at the Asia Pacific Actors Network, clinched the Best Director award for “Tirador.”
Meanwhile, “Tirador” won Best Picture for its gripping presentation of poverty in the city and showing the contrasts and similarities between smalltime crooks and politicians and religious leaders who give nothing but empty promises.
The surprise of the evening sprang from a nebulous bold starlet, a veteran of indie movies, Angela Ruiz, who won the Best Supporting Actress in “Tirador.” Everybody in the hall was busy buzzing, who in the world is Angela Ruiz?
According to Pilapil, her ward is in Singapore working as a model. “Magaling si Angela umarte,” complemented movie writer Dennis Adobas who conducted an acting workshop for her before she faced the cameras for which Pilapil thanked Adobas no end.
Character actor and erstwhile sexy star Emilio Garcia won Best Suppporting Actor.
Most of the remaining winners are indie filmmakers in the creative and technical departments—Jade Castro, Michiko Yamamoto and Raymond Lee (Best Screenplay for “Endo”), Lav Diaz and Dante Perez (Best Production Design for “Death in the Land of Encantos”), Jeffrey de la Cruz, Brillante Mendoza, Gary Tria and Julius Villanueva (Best Cinematography for “Tirador”), Aleks Castañeda (Best Editing for “Tambolista”), Francis de Vera (Best Music for “Tribu”) and “Ditoy Aguila and Junel Valencia (Best Sound for “Tirador”).
To promote short films, the Urian also recognized the artistic and technical gifts of the filmmakers and this year the award went to Alvin Yapan for “Rolyo.”
And to highlight the Manunuri’s support to the moving spirit of indie filmmaking, the organization gave this year’s Natatanging Gawad Urian, a lifetime achievement of sort, to the pioneer in aesthetic independence in film, Kidlat Tahimik. His was an unconventional acceptance of the award when he performed as an indigenous Ifugao in G-string who graduated from filmmaking and wanted to pursue independent moviemaking. Kidlat Tahimik stole thunder from the show, freely.

JC is Rhian’s escort at debut in Makati City

“Parang feel ko until that day I still won’t be ready kasi nakakanerbiyos talaga. Especially ‘pag sinasabi ng tao na parang…well first, malaki ang expectation na you know to be lady… parang that’s the day you grow up or whatever," paliwanag ng dalaga.
“I personally picked JC kasi ano siyempre… may show or no show nasa akin pa rin yun desisyon kasi debut ko naman yun," pahayag niya.
- GMANews.TV

Kulam gets 'A' from Cinema Evaluation Board
A few hours before the premiere of Mag-ingat ka sa...Kulam, PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) learned that this horror movie (with a rating of PG-13 by the Movie and Television Review and Classifications Board) was graded "A" by the Cinema Evaluation Board.
The 48th anniversary offering of Regal Entertainment was cited for its outstanding story by writer-director Jun Lana and creative cinematography by film scholar Mo Zee and exceptional music by award winning scorer Von de Guzman.
The special effects were done by Roadrunner under the supervision of multi-awarded editor Manet Dayrit.
Jun Lana, the writer-director says that Mag-ingat ka sa...Kulam will not only give the audience a real good scare, but at the same time an understanding on how the phenomenon of "kulam" (witchcraft) works and what we should do in case we become victims of it.
Kulam also stars TJ Trinidad, Mart Escudero, Kris Bernal, and Sharlene San Pedro. Written and directed by Jun Lana, the film will usher in the Halloween month and will be shown on October 1 in theaters nationwide. - Philippine Entertainment Portal

Jason Abalos ecstatic over his Best Actor win

Second acting trophy ni Jason ito for his poignant portrayal of Leo, the young man who flits from one contractual job to another sa indie film na Endo (short for End of Contract).
This is Cherry Pie’s second Best Actress plum from the Urian.
The morning of the Urian ceremonies, maugong ang pangalan nina Jason at Cherry Pie as possible winners.
Natawa ang audience nang nagpahabol ng salita si Sid – nauna siyang nag-speech - after Jason has finished with his acceptance speech. “Baby, nasa’n ka?” Ang tinutukoy ni Sid na “baby” ay si Emilio Garcia who played his lover in Selda na siya namang nagwagi as Best Supporting Actor that night.
Nakaw-eksena nga rin pala si Rustom Padilla, last year’s Best Actor winner for Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah who appeared on stage in drag (as in naka-damit babae) to present the Best Actor prize with Mark Gil na naka-tie ni Rustom last year para naman sa Rotonda.
Kinausap nila ako dun not as Ryan and Judai na artista kundi bilang Ryan at Judai na mga totoong tao.

Sam Concepcion holds birthday concert at Music Museum

Teen heartthrob Sam Concepcion celebrates his 16th birthday through a solo concert entitled "I'll Find Your Heart" at the Music Museum on October 18, Saturday, at 8 p.m.
Concepcion is dedicating this special occasion to all his fans. "This is really for them, especially the Samsters," he said. "It's like my way of saying thank you for all the support that they've given me ever since I started in show biz. They've always been there for me."
"I never really dreamed of becoming a singer or an actor," he said. "Even when I was just a kid, I'd just sing or dance. I didn't expect any of these to happen but they just did. So I consider them as blessings."
Concepcion will be singing a variety of songs that will include some singles from his album, theme songs of the TV series that he has been part of, as well as contemporary, pop and novelty songs.
He finds it difficult to single out a song as his favorite for he listens to a wide range of artists. "Sometimes you find a musical element that's beautiful in this song, and sometimes in another, so I can't really pick one and say that this is my favorite," he said.
This is also reflected in the different artists that he emulates, which include Gary Valenciano, Christian Bautista, Billy Crawford, Justin Timberlake, and Michael Jackson.
Concepcion will also perform selected numbers from stage musicals "Footloose" and "High School Musical" where he will be singing with Cheska Ortega, his love interest in the soap "I Love Betty La Fea."
He is currently concentrating on his studies and career and love is taking the backseat. "But if she comes my way first and knocks on my door, I'll gladly open and let her in to my heart," he said.
While Sam is very busy preparing for his birthday concert, he is also occupied doing "I Love Betty La Fea." A second album is also in the works under Universal Records. He is also a regular in TV 5's "Lipgloss" and a semi-regular in ABS CBN's "ASAP '08."
On October 18, Sam will also be joined by "Pinoy Dream Academy's" Iñaki Ting and Bea Muñoz, 24 Beat Dancers, Fairground band and other surprise guests. "I'll Find Your Heart" is produced by STAGES under the musical direction of Criss Buenviaje and the direction of Audie Gemora.

Kim Chiu says she's not anorexic
Young actress Kim Chiu on Tuesday dismissed speculations that she is suffering from anorexia.
Anorexia, an eating disorder, is characterized by an obsessive fear of gaining weight, which is usually controlled by vomiting, starvation, drugs, or excessive exercise.
In an interview, Chiu said she practices a healthy lifestyle and that she actually has a really good appetite.
Although she’s evidently losing weight, Chiu stressed that she is not on a diet. On the contrary, she said that she has been eating a lot to shape up her body.
In the hopes of maintaining a healthy body and eventually gaining weight, Chiu has hired a nutritionist so her food intake will be closely supervised.
In the meantime, Chiu is busy promoting her latest television show "My Only Hope" with on-screen partner Gerald Anderson.
"My Only Hope" is the follow-up project of the hit tandem after the success of their show "My Girl" on ABS-CBN.

Toni Gonzaga defends sister Alex on parrot tag

Actress Toni Gonzaga on Tuesday defended her sister Alex on reports that the latter mimics her comedic antics. She did say, however, that she wouldn’t mind if her younger sister were to imitate her acting style.
Toni mentioned that it is inevitable for people to compare her to Alex because they are, after all, siblings. She actually believed that it would be better that way as compared to being matched up with other stars that have no blood relation with her.
Toni said that she is very proud of her sister, seeing how Alex is doing her best to make a name of her own in the showbiz industry.
No pressure anymore
In an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.Com, showbiz newcomer Alex Gonzaga said that she no longer feels any pressure being Toni’s sister.
Despite many instances when people kept on comparing her to Toni, Alex stated that she is glad that she has also received praise from reviewers and showbiz pundits for her acting prowess.
Alex is currently busy with ABS-CBN’s weekly television show “My Only Hope,” a follow-up show of the hit television series “My Girl” starring Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson. Her sister Toni, on the other hand, is busy with her upcoming movie in Star Cinema entitled “My Only U” with ace comedian Vhong Navarro.

Baron Geisler: 'I wasn't detained'

Controversial actor Baron Geisler has denied reports that he was detained in Venice early this month.
In a recent interview at Star Magic’s 2009 Catalogue Launch, Geisler deemed the reports as “foul” since he was in Europe with the cast of “Jay” when the issue surfaced.
“Jay,” an independent motion picture, was an entry in the Venice International Film Festival.
Although the film didn’t garner awards in the competition, Geisler was still happy as they have received a lot of positive feedback.
Geisler explained that they were set to be back in the country by Tuesday, September 2. However, he said that it was reset to Sunday, September 7 because they missed their original scheduled flight.
"There's no truth that I was detained. I just had a delayed flight because we missed our September 2 flight. That's why I arrived late," he said.
Geisler said that he cannot believe how his delayed flight to Manila would give birth to rumors that he was being detained in Venice.
"I just learned while I was in Venice that there's an issue here (in Manila) that I was inside the detention cell," he said.
Aside from the rumor, Geisler said that his delayed return to the country caused him another problem since he lost a big project with veteran actress Maricel Soriano.
He said that he was scheduled to work for the movie “Tenement” with Soriano on the first week of September. Since he failed to appear on time, his role was given to actor Eric Fructoso.
In the meantime, Geisler is finishing his shoot of “Baler,” a forthcoming film with Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis. He is also set to be seen on “Eva Fonda,” an upcoming television series with sexy actress Cristine Reyes.
Baron snatched headlines when a sexual harassment case was filed against him by Patricia Martinez, daughter of celebrity couple William Martinez and Yayo Aguila.

Mishaps hound 'Philippines' Scariest Challenge' guests
Another mysterious accident hounds a second contestant of the Halloween episode of TV5's Philippines' Scariest Challenge.
Napauwi ng wala sa oras ang manager ni Joyce na si Shirley Kuan na sinamahan si KC Concepcion para sa European premiere ng For The First Time ng Star Cinema dahil "all the world is calling and texting me if I know it already."
- Philippine Entertainment Portal

Claudine denies rift with Angelica on set of 'Iisa Pa Lamang'

ABS-CBN star Claudine Barretto said that she has nothing against co-star Angelica Panganiban, who plays the role of Scarlet, a kontrabida in the hit television series "Iisa Pa Lamang."
In an interview, Barretto dismissed speculations that there's tension between her and Panganiban on the set of the series.
"We are very, very close. She's like my little sister," Barretto said.
The actress said she treats Panganiban like she does other young female stars of ABS-CBN.
"Everybody in ABS-CBN, I treat them as my little sisters," the actress said.
The youngest of the Barretto sisters also extended her appreciation to all the viewers and supporters of the series.
On behalf of everybody, our directors, our crew and AD namin, maraming salamat sa lahat, sobra," she said.
Barretto even shared that viewers will be seeing more interesting twists in the series.
"Marami pa kayong aabangan, sobra sobrang daming twist ng 'Iisa Pa Lamang','" she said.
New movies
Barretto will soon be busy shooting other movies under Star Cinema.
"Aside from 'Iisa Pa Lamang', I will be doing a movie, of course, under Star Cinema," she said.
Barretto said she hasn't yet been told what the story of the film is about.
"Maraming nakapila na movies, and I'm not sure if we are allowed to say kung ano yon," she explained.
The actress said she will be doing the movie next year, and it's definitely a love story.
Condoles with Gabby
Barretto also expressed sympathy and extended her condolences to the leading man in the series, Gabby Concepcion, whose father Rollie Concepcion passed away last week.
"You know I wasn't able to go to the funeral or to the wake because I left. I was out of town, but my prayers are always with him and his family. Nakakalungkot kasi ang dami niyang pinagadananaan ngayon," she said.
So ipagdasal natin ng strength pa at grace from God," she added.
Claudine also shared her happiness about her two kids -- Sabina and Santino. Despite being busy fulfilling her showbiz commitments, she said she makes sure that she has quality time for her kids.
"And the babies are big na. Sabina is doing well in school. Si Santino is running and running. He's advanced for his age," she said.
Barretto is married to actor Raymart Santiago.

John Lloyd willing to wait forever for Vilma

Actor John Lloyd Cruz is excited about his three upcoming films under Star Cinema, especially the one with Star for All Seasons, Vilma Santos.
In an interview, Cruz said that he's just waiting for the right time to work with Santos, since the latter is too busy with her duties as governor of Batangas province.
"Of course, nandiyan pa din ang pending movie with Ms. Vilma Santos, yun lang talaga, yung schedule lang talaga. But I understand, and we understand na medyo mahirap maglingkod sa bayan. At kung mayroon siyang kailangang i-prioritize, it's the people of Batangas. So, okay lang,” he said.
Cruz added it would be best for the governor to focus on her priorities as a public servant before shooting the movie.
The actor said he is willing to wait, even if it takes forever, just so he can make a movie with one of the country’s great artists.
“Ako, kung kailangan akong maghintay forever, maghihintay ako para makagawa ng pelikula with Governor Vi,” he said.
Cruz said he is still clueless on what the story of the film is all about since it has undergone changes by the director and writers.
Film with Gretchen
Aside from working with 'Ate Vi,' reports said Cruz will also be doing a movie with socialite-actress Gretchen Barretto.
In a previous interview with Barretto, she said she would like to do a movie with Cruz since it will be a unique team up.
Cruz agreed. "Dyosa ‘yon.
Sana ay matuloy,” Cruz said.
The actor said that the film might be produced by ABS-CBN's movie outfit, Star Cinema.
"It's a concept na nagsimula sa Star Cinema na nasagap ko, and ngayon, inaasahan kong mangyayari. Tapos pangarap ko ding makagawa ng ganoong tema, may December affair," he said.
Aside from doing a movie with Santos and Barretto, Cruz will also be doing a follow-up movie with pop star Sarah Geronimo.
"As of today, sigurado yun, matutuloy. So, abangan niyo at may parating," he said.
Cruz and Geronimo made headlines with the success of their first movie together "A Very Special Love" under Star Cinema.
Cruz, a member of Star Magic, is now busy playing the role of Armando in ABS-CBN's television series "I Love Betty La Fea" with his long-time on-screen partner actress Bea Alonzo.

Kris reveals where most of her endorsement fees went

Kris Aquino topped YES! magazine's list of Top 20 Celebrity Endorsers published on its October 2008 issue. Earlier this morning, September 29, Kris thanked YES! and PEP editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon through a text message.
Kris started her text message to Ms. Maglipon by saying that she will thank the YES! and PEP editor-in-chief live on her morning show in ABS-CBN with Boy Abunda, Boy & Kris. Then the TV host-actress mentioned where the big portion of her talent fees from her endorsements actually go.
"The bulk of my advertising this year went to Baby James's educational fund (pre-paid lump sum from Grade 1 to 4th year college), his wealth-managed trust fund which we'll receive after college graduation and Josh's wealth-managed fund as well," said Kris.
Baby James is Kris's son to husband James Yap while Josh is her love child with actor Phillip Salvador.
"Josh will always need special care," Kris continued, "so I promised my mom [former President Corazon Aquino] to make sure that he'll always be ok financially. He is always her top worry."
The former Philippine president was diagnosed with colon cancer earlier this year and Kris told Ms. Maglipon that she also helps in the medical expenses.
"I take care of some of my mom's medical expenses because it makes me feel good but she's forever wanting to pay me back," she said.
Although Kris did not mention exactly where the money came from, she said that, "James has fulfilled his promise to his family to build a bigger home in their province.
"Thank you for this recognition," she told Ms. Maglipon.
Kris emerged on top of the YES! list because she is "without a doubt the queen of product endorsements, with 21 products to her name."
According to YES!, Kris is a favorite of advertisers because "she is very easy to work with, and is very professional, arriving for a shoot prepared, with her lines memorized."
But Kris's best asset is that "she connects well with consumers, whatever bracket of society they belong to."
The YES! list of Top 20 Celebrity Endorsers is based on the live contracts of the celebrities up to at least October 2008.
The October 2008 issue of YES! is now available in leading magazine stands and bookstores nationwide. - Philippine Entertainment Portal

“I hope he understands. I still have my career to think of.
Ibang klase. I am already in her body and soul,” sabi ni Bea.
“I must admit that I am in love with Bea. I find her very pretty.
“We go out together, totoo ‘yon. Because we are friends and I court her.
“I know I have something to show so why do I have to hide it,” katwiran ni Cuenca.
“Intrigues are part of the business. Without intrigues, movie stars like me won’t be talked about. Without the movie press, we are nothing,” sabi ni Jake.

Three Filipino films win in Bangkok film fest
Just a few days after winning two awards in the 6th International Pacific Meridian Film Festival in Russia, Brillante Mendoza was once again honored in an international film fest. Brillante, first-time filmmaker Francis Xavier Pasion, and John Torres were among the directors who won in the recently concluded Bangkok International Film Festival.
The sixth edition of the Bangkok IFF took place from September 23 to 30 in Thailand. Ferdy Lapuz, one of the producers of Serbis, say that this film won the Golden Kinnaree Award in the Southeast Asian competition at the Bangkok IFF. Serbis shows the life of a family who operate a run-down movie house showing sex flicks in Pampanga. Gina Pareño, Julio Diaz, Jaclyn Jose, Coco Martin, and Kristoffer King are some of the stars who topbill this award-winning film.
The Cinemalaya 2008 entry Jay, directed by Francis Xavier Pasion, bagged the Special Mention Award in the main competition category. Baron Geisler and Coco Martin appear in this film about a TV producer creating a documentary about a homosexual teacher.
John Torres' Years When I was A Child Outside won special mention in the Southeast Asian competition. This 2007 Cinemanila International Film Festival entry is also known for its alternative title is Taon noong ako'y anak sa labas.
According to the official website of the Bangkok IFF, the Golden Kinnaree Award "symbolizes the creative spirit—looking to the future, while respecting the achievements and traditions of the past—flying between the worlds of reality and imagination." This award was won by Brillante Mendoza for Serbis.
The winners were chosen by a six-member jury panel, including Thailand-based, Lao-Australian-ethnic actor Ananda Everingham, Swedish festival artistic director Martial Knaebel and Singaporean director Eric Khoo. The Bangkok IFF has two divisions: the main competition and Southeast Asian competition, each featuring 10 films from the world and the region.
The Bangkok IFF screened around 80 films from over 40 countries during its week-long run. - Philippine Entertainment Portal

Piolo having fun in Down Under shoot with Angel

Actor Piolo Pascual is enjoying shooting with actress Angel Locsin in their upcoming film "Land Down Under."
“Masaya, it's a nice experience. It's something na hindi pa namin nagagawa before. And for this movie, ang daming first," Pascual said.
One of the firsts is the fact that they're filming it in Australia since the movie has a lot of scenes with horses.
"Kung sa 'Lobo', we had to deal with dogs, dito naman, horses naman. So Angel and I are actually teasing each other, baka naman sa susunod, cat woman naman siya," he said.
Pascual said that aside from the fun of working in a nice foreign land, they are enjoying working with the rest of the team, especially with their director Rory Quintos.
"Maganda yung experience, and I hope na matapos kami in time for the showing," he said.
Angel's accident
Pascual also confirmed that Locsin had an accident while doing an action scene with horses.
"Okay naman si Angel. It was just an accident. We were galloping when she was trying to catch up. But it was nothing serious naman. She was rushed to hospital. The doctor advised her to sleep. The next day, back to the set nagsho-shoot ulit siya, okay na siya," he said.
Pascual said that they had to cut the scene because of the accident, but every one was back to work the next day.
"Wala naman, natural naman yon. It's very physical. Hindi naman siya straight out na drama. Marami kaming scenes na nagho-horse back riding kami ni Angel. Maraming scenes na takbuhan. It's very active and very different from all the movies I've done before," he said.
Pascual is set to leave again for Australia in mid-October and will be staying there for two weeks to complete the film with Locsin.
He is also set to go to Europe for a concert dubbed "Heartthrobs in Europe" with Sam Milby last week of October.
After finishing "Land Down Under," Pascual will be doing another television series for ABS-CBN.
Pascual is one of the cover stars on Star Magic 2009's Catalogue by ABS-CBN Publishing.

Janina San Miguel quits as Bb Pilipinas-World

Beauty queen Janina San Miguel has resigned as the country’s official representative to the 2008 Miss World beauty pageant.
A statement from the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) said San Miguel cited as reason for her decision the recent death of his grandfather.

“BPCI wishes to express its gratitude to Ms. San Miguel for this act of graciousness and concern for the country. They also wish her well in her future endeavors," it added.
In accordance with BCPI’s rules and regulations, 1st Runner-Up Danielle Castaño will replace San Miguel as the official Philippine representative who will vie for the Ms. World 2008 plum in Johannesburg. - GMANews.TV

Roxanne on Sid Lucero: We're not lovers

Actress Roxanne Guinoo denied reports that she is now the new found love of actor Sid Lucero, who is her leading man in ABS-CBN’s hit afternoon series, “Ligaw na Bulaklak.”
In an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Guinoo admitted that she is now closer to Lucero but denied that she is romantically involved with him.
Trabaho lang,” Guinoo said.
The actress said that unlike her other leading men who eventually became her boyfriend, Lucero is definitely not one of them.
“Ito hindi. Patapos na ang show, wala talaga. At may girlfriend siya for five years, at bumibisita ang girlfriend niya,” she explained.
Guinoo said that not being romantically linked to Lucero, and her other leading man, rock star-turned-actor Mark Abaya, is not a loss at all since she can work without being emotionally involved.
“Dito kasi, trabaho lang talaga ako. Hindi ako involved sa taong ka-partner ko. Dito ay team lang kami ni Sid at Kuya Mark,” she said.
The actress said she really enjoyed doing “Ligaw na Bulaklak, ” a series that challenged her acting skills.
“Dito, nag-e-effort kami dito kasi hindi kami real life sweetheart.
“Ligaw na Bulaklak” is being shown until October.
Guinoo, who has made headlines because of her failed romantic affairs, is now busy with her upcoming gag show “Banana Split” with RR Enriquez, Princess Ryan, Dianne Medina, Cristine Reyes and Angelica Panganiban.
Guinoo started her career when she joined ABS-CBN's teen edition of Star Circle Quest (SCQ) in 2004. Her first boyfriend was also a former SCQ contestant, Joross Gamboa.
After Joross, she was linked to Willie Revillame, host of the daily noontime show "Wowowee," but the rumor died down after Roxanne and Jake Cuenca were seen going out together.
Aside from being busy taping for "Banana Split," Roxanne is also engaged with her upcoming movies, "Mr. Housewife," with Revillame, and "Florinda" with Diamond Star Maricel Soriano.

Win or lose daw with his bout with dela Hoya, may dalawang laban pa raw si Pacman with Ricky Hatton sa March or April 2009 at kay Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on July or August 2009.
- Philippine Entertainment Portal

Nadia Montenegro slams Cristy Fermin on "The Buzz"
Former actress Nadia Montenegro hurled blame and accusations at entertainment columnist, radio and TV host Cristy Fermin during an interview on "The Buzz", the ABS-CBN entertainment talk show where Fermin is a co-host. Montenegro accused Fermin of betrayal and of trying to destroy her reputation.
Montenegro said she lost her friendship with Gretchen Barretto due to intrigues allegedly sown by Fermin. During the interview, the former actress questioned Fermin’s credibility, noting that a court has found the TV host guilty of libel.
She also hinted that Fermin is allegedly asking for money in exchange for a good publicity.
She also blamed Fermin’s alleged lies for her mother’s hospitalization. Montenegro’s mother, Linda, who is based in California, is confined to a hospital due to high blood.
Fermin was reportedly in Canada when the interview was conducted.
Below are excerpts of Montenegro’s interview on “The Buzz” Sunday:
On her mother’s hospitalization and the effects of her feud with Fermin on her children:
“…I got a call na she was rushed to a hospital dahil sa taas ng presyon. And she was practically begging me to just, you know, keep quiet. And I had to ask for forgiveness from my mother.
“Kasi pag pamilya mo na yung sinisiraan, pamilya mo na yung tinatapakan, I have to be the mother that I am. Because if there’s one thing that I am, I know that I’m a very good mother.”
“Apektado sila. They text me in school, ‘Mommy, bakit ka nila ginaganito? Why do they say these things?
“I’m doing this for my children, for my mom, and for my family. And for my name.”
On her lost friendship with Barretto:
“Alam nyo kasi seven months ago, you know I lost a very good friend. I lost her because of intrigues. I lost her because of Cristy Fermin who until this day has not proven that text message that she told Gretchen that I sent to all the reporters.
Wala akong show, wala akong pelikula. Hindi ko kailangang magcomeback, wala.”
“Before the Gretchen issue, she was my nanay. She was texting me, ‘Anak, mahal kita,’ at naniwala ako. And after one day, she turned her back on me and I’m the worst person.”
On Fermin allegedly asking money for good publicity:
“I do not want to lose another friend because of Cristy’s lies. I have to remind the public and Cristy Fermin that you are convicted for libel, you have no credibility. I do not know, but I have to say this, and I’m here to fight for what I believe in. Wala nang mawawala sa akin. After nito, I am not going to say anything anymore.
On her alleged role in the current rift between friend Gabby Concepcion and his manager, Rose Flaminiano:
And that is Cristy Fermin. I am just a personal friend of Gabby. Gabby has his own mind, he makes his own decisions. I have always been just a friend who advises him. Why will I deprive him? He’s been gone for a while.”
“If Rose Flaminiano can even show me one proof na kumita ako ng piso kay Gabby, ipakita mo sa akin ngayon.”
“Siguro dahil she’s an obsessive manager, ayaw niyang may napapalapit kay Gabby. Siguro nakita niya noong day one noong nagkita kami ni Gabby nagkalapit agad kami.
On actors helpless against Fermin:
Lahat.”

Cristine Reyes isn’t closing her doors on ex-flame Dennis Trillo
After keeping everybody guessing with what was really going on between them, Cristine Reyes and Dennis Trillo finally came clean and admitted to the public about their relationship a month ago, but then subsequently declared that they were a couple no more.
When Cristine was hospitalized last week supposedly due to a suicide attempt (which Cristine later clarified. She was just over fatigued), tongues started wagging that her ex-boyfriend was the main cause for her condition.
During the presscon for her new all-girl gag show Banana Split last September 25 at ABS-CBN, Cristine shares that there was definitely no connection between Dennis and what happened to her. The Eva Fonda star said that she didn’t even know if Dennis had already heard about it.
But the 19 year old actress says she does not feel bad that he was not able to visit her while she was in the hospital. “At this time, kailangan kasi naming i-prioritize yung mga kailangan naming i-prioritize. Yung aming mga career,” she says to the press.
Although the two have been saying they have definitely broken up, reports say that Cristine’s car is still very much visible in the vicinity of her former network. But Cristine clarifies that it was just her driver who goes there to pick up her stylist, who also does work in the network.
During the presscon, the media also showed concern with the bruises visible on both sides of Cristine’s arms, but the Kahit Isang Saglit star clarifies yet again that the marks also had nothing to do with Dennis or anybody else for the matter. “Pasain kasi talaga ako. Madali lang magkaroon ng pasa. Isang bunggo lang, pasa na kagad,” she stresses.
Looking visibly happy, Cristine looks thoughtful when asked if she is doing okay now that she’s single again. “I’ve moved on because kailangan ko mag-move on. We’re okay naman. We’re just friends now,” she shares. With regards to a possible reconciliation, the pretty actress replied positively, “I’m not closing any doors, but siguro time will tell na lang,” she says.
With back-to-back tapings, it’s understandable that Cristine would rather focus on work issues rather than her personal life at the moment.
“Wala kasi akong time sa lalake ngayon eh. Sina Angelica, at Anne Curtis. Si Anne sobra sobra talaga, as in (laughs). ‘Wag na natin sila pag-usapan, baka ma-isyuhan akong tomboy eh (laughs),” she says in jest.
Since Banana Split features a different male celebrity guest every week, Cristine also gets asked if there was any chance her ex-flame would be in her new show, but the pretty actress says matter-of-factly, ”Malabo po yun., siyempre nasa kabila siya,” she concludes.

Ogie thanks Michelle's ‘new man’ at his concert
"Tonight is one of the happiest nights I will ever, ever have because tonight, after quite a while, my children are here to watch me. I don't get to see you often, Leila and Sarah, and I'm so happy you're here. Seeing you right now, I see how beautiful you are...
Patuloy niya, "Of course, I'm so happy that Michelle is here tonight. Palakpakan n'yo po ang taong ito. Thank you for bringing them [their daughters] here, for being there when I'm not."
"And of course, to you Mark... Mark, you are now tabloid material! Mark, thank you for being there," pahayag ni Ogie.
- Philippine Entertainment Portal

Banana Split girls deny Cristine is getting VIP treatment on their set
As the premiere for ABS-CBN’s all-new gag show nears, the girls of Banana Split are all excited with their newest project. During a pocket press conference last September 25, Angelica Panganiban, Cristine Reyes, Dianne Medina and Princess Ryan gamely faced the press to talk about working together.
Other cast members that were noticeably absent were Roxanne Guinoo who was busy taping for Ligaw Na Bulaklak and Wowowee co-hosts Valerie Concepcion and RR Herrera who were doing the noontime variety show during that same time.
After spending just a short time bonding with each other, the girls admit that they have yet to really get to know each other.
Cristine, on the other hand says that the good vibes on the set makes it almost impossible for anybody to cause friction with someone else. Kasi masaya talaga kaming lahat pag magkakasama. Lahat kami naglolokohan. (laughs). Wala pa talagang ganung incident na nangyari,” she stresses.
Even Princess Ryan agrees with the two. Parang nakakahawa talaga yung positive vibes, yung saya sa studio,” she shares.
Cristine also clarifies the issue that she requested to have her own dressing room while the other Banana Split girls have to share with each other. Eh since galing si Valerie sa Wowowee dressing room, ako nalang mag-isa dun,” she explains.
Angelica also helps clarify the situation. So si Cristine, naiiwan siyang mag-isa,” she states.
Angelica also admits that the size of their dressing rooms is actually ideal for just one person. Ganun lang,” she says.
A visibly happier Cristine, who had to be hospitalized last week due to over fatigue from taping three shows, expressed how Banana Split is always something she looks forward to taping the most. “Sobrang bonding kami kapag may taping. Kasi hiwa-hiwalay kami ng dressing room, so minsan ako nanga-nga-pitbahay kila Angelica at saka kina Roxanne. Pag nasa set, tawa lang kami ng tawa, ganun,” she happily admits.
Angelica also adds on to her sentiment, “Once nandun ka na sa set, yung energy ng lahat ng tao. Ang saya-saya, full of energy talaga sila dun. Ang mga extra energy nila nado-donate nila sayo,” she exclaims. Even former Wazzup Wazzup tadjock Dianne Medina says that there is no rivalry among her castmates. ”It’s not an insecurity, its more of paghanga dun sa mga kasama mo. Lahat naman po sila sexy, magaganda. So it’s more of like si Cristine hahanga ako na maganda yung katawan niya,” she comments.
Even Angelica couldn’t help but gush about how she envies her Banana Split co-star. Kasi ako kahit wala akong tiyan, wala akong shape. Sa kanya, ang sarap titigan, ganun, nakaka-tomboy! (laughs)” she says in jest.

Derek Ramsay is open to gay roles

Derek Ramsay is just one of many hunk models whose gamble in crossing over to acting paid off successfully.During the cast pictorial of his upcoming teleserye Humingi Ako Sa Langit, Derek told ABS-CBN.com that he is thinking of other challenging portrayals, and is actually considering doing a gay role. The declaration came as a shock, so ABS-CBN.com asked Derek why he is ready to take that risk.
“I’m not afraid of gay roles .I’m willing to do challenging roles to see how good I would do.If I fail, then I fail.At least I tried and I won’t have to live with myself asking what if sinubukan ko nga,” he answered.
But doing gay roles has its drawbacks on actors especially for the likes of Derek who keep a macho image. Is he bothered that people might question his sexuality once he plays gay on screen?
“I know myself.People who actually know me know that I am not gay. There are people out there who will never get to like me, and I’m comfortable with that.Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion and I’m not going to try to do anything to convince them to like me.Even if I get judged ‘Oh! You must be gay!’ As long as I know I played the part well, I wouldn’t be affected,” he told ABS-CBN.com.
Taking risks is not a new thing for Derek. He was already a recognized model when a few years ago he was chosen by Kris Aquino to play one of her leading men in her movie. But Derek declined the offer because at that time, he felt he didn’t have the talent to act. When more opportunities came his way, he figured them as signs for him to broaden his arena.
“I jumped into Panday, and that was the beginning. From then on nagtuloy-tuloy na.Then I realized that I liked it, I enjoyed it, and I can be pretty good at it.Acting made me look into my future to see if I’ll be doing this for a long time.So far I can see myself doing this for a long time.”
In Humingi Ako Sa Langit, Derek will be reunited with Ms. Judy Ann Santos whom he last worked with the hit teleserye Ysabella.Catch their tandem once again when Humingi Ako Sa Langit debuts on ABS-CBN.
